A post with various craft ideas for children to try.

This post is intended for your child to look through and choose something that they would like to try.

All of these craft activities are suitable for ages 5 and over and

can be made with things that you already have in your house.

DRAW A SELF PORTRAIT

What you need

Paper and colouring pens

Scissors and glue

An old magazine

What you do

Flick through the magazine and cut out what you would like to use.

You could cut out eyes, mouth, hair styles, clothes, shoes, whatever takes your fancy.

Draw your face or your whole body.

Now glue on the details that you have cut out.

Have fun.

MAKE A CELEBRATION HAT

There is always something to celebrate.

The new year is the most obvious one right now but

you can celebrate a happy day with a smiley face hat,

a birthday with a cake hat,

you can even celebrate a sunny day with a sunshine hat.

What you need

2 sheets of card and colouring pens

Scissors and tape

What you do 

Cut the card length ways.

Measure around your head and tape the two end pieces

together to make a long strip, this will be your head band.

Draw your celebration picture, cut it out and tape to the middle of your head band.

Now get someone to help you to tape the back together while it’s on your head.

Time to celebrate the day!

MAKE A SPIDER WEB

What you need

A paper plate

Hole punch

Wool

What you do

Punch holes all around the plate.

Thread the wool through any hole and tie it with a double knot around the plate edge.

Now have fun threading the wool through the holes.

Always bring the wool to the hole opposite the one it has come through.

When all of the holes are done tie the wool around the edge of the plate and double knot.

Now you can make a spider to live in your web.

MAKE A BUTTON PICTURE

What you need

Paper and colouring pens

Buttons and glue

What you do

Draw a picture.

Glue on the buttons to give it some 3d beauty.

Or if you have a lot of buttons you could make the first letter of your name.

It would look great in a frame made from card.

Draw with chalk

Get out your chalks or pastels and get creative with colour.

Use your fingers to blend the colours together and experiment with different ways to blend.

Rub your fingers around in circles on the colours, wipe, swipe, swirl and dab.
